About

David Coburn is a strategic thinker, writer, media relations expert and communications consultant leveraging 30-plus years of print journalism and agency public relations experience. He takes a consultative approach to help clients tell stories that elevate their brand by crafting results-oriented communications strategies. He also offers clients a wealth of expertise in reputation management, including deep experience in crisis communications and issues management. Over the years he has been fortunate to serve a roster of world-class brands in categories ranging from consumer goods and financial services to healthcare, supply chain, building products and regulated utilities. 

When he’s not helping clients achieve their business goals, David enjoys tending to his pepper plants, cooking, reading and tooling around the local ice rink at his weekly rec-league hockey game. He and his wife Carol have two adult daughters and live in Charlotte with a lovable 100-pound black Lab named Luke.

With more than two decades in journalism and over 15 years in public relations, David Coburn provides clients with the experience and insights they need to develop positive brand-building public relations strategies and avoid or mitigate the reputational risks associated with issues, crisis situations and sensitive transitions such as CEO changes, mergers and acquisitions. 

During his time at Luquire George Andrews, David put his media relations savvy to work for a diverse roster of clients including Babson Capital Management, Piedmont Natural Gas, National Gypsum, Falfurrias Capital Partners, Curtiss-Wright and CVS/pharmacy. He has secured interview opportunities and placements in publications ranging from The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Southern Living, and USA Today to countless local, regional and trade media.

Writing and editing skills honed over years in journalism bring another dimension to David’s work, enabling him to work effectively with clients in drafting timely opinion pieces and guest editorials that have been published in USA Today, The Christian Science Monitor, and major regional newspapers including The Charlotte Observer and the Dallas Morning News.

During a journalism career that included stints at The Charlotte Observer and The San Diego Union-Tribune, David won a national business reporting award as a reporter for a series exposing fraud in a federal small-business loan program. He also edited an award-winning series on the plight of foreign farm workers in North Carolina.

David is actively involved in professional and civic activities, including serving on the board of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Charlotte chapter.
